How do you keep vandels from hitting your mailbox?
Question:We live in the suburbs and some vandels have hit our mailbox at least four times since we've moved here. We've only lived here 2 years! We put up a new box and even stuck a pole in front of the mailbox but it still has been getting hit. Any suggestions? We don't know who's doing it or we'd turn them in and have them pay for damages.

Build a mailbox stand out of brick! The stand will contain the mailbox and keep the vandals from doing the damage.
I'm serious, sit out front at night in a well concealled location, and when they show up to do it again confront them.
The VERY best solution would be to not have a mailbox on the street - get a PO Box...but if that wont work I have another solution. I saw a guy weld a steel mailbox together. The steel plate was very think - he attached it to well pipe that he pour concrete down the middle. Anybody who tried to "play baseball" with that mailbox got "rung" deep in their bones.

I know a friend who did it, and it worked.
I no some people with the same problem,they put up cameras and caught the people doing it,But to do that and to keep the camara running it will take money.And if you dont catch them it would not have been worth it.I say you should report it.Maybe the cops can do something? Sorry about your mailbox.
what i would do would be to apply one of those stickers that says security camera inside and put it on the side of the mail box. Then the person would be to afraid to show up by the mail box. Good luck!
There is no help for that but i like one of the poster's suggestion to put up a plate steel mailbox I might try that for my mailbox and I also use a PO box for my sensitive mail. My mailbox is a very common target for Vandals who hit and shoot at my mailbox on a very frequent basis they are mostly high school teenagers or drunk young adults who does this for fun cause there is nothing else to do
1 it is a federal crime for damaging a mail box i had the same trouble people going to fast and running off the road i got a 12'' piece of plastic pipe put it in the ground all put 4ft and filled it with concrete and raised the curb from 6 to 12 now they do more damage to their car you can try putting a spot lite up and keep it foucs on it
Is it practical to get a post office box instead? If you have the cash to spare.

Go to local steel fab shop and have them make you a heavy duty one. !/4" steel . Mies 3/8 th it what I had. I do it where I live because of snow plows. Get a solid post and all and cement it in. I watched a guy back into mine didn't move but it trashed his back end. .

8' concrete filled steel post, set 4' deep in concrete.
Buy a HUGE and regular sized mailbox. Center the smaller box inside the larger box. Pour concrete around and under the smaller box. Make sure to keep the smaller box set back so the larger box will close. Mount on post.
There are "fake" cameras (very cheap) that have tracking capability to make it look as though they are really following someone. Firmly mounted and with a sign saying all video transmitted to secured hard drive 24/7 might work. Also, coat the box with that powder that shows up under a black light so when the suspects are caught maybe they will find the weapon used and verify that it was used on your mailbox.
