My propane grill is 2 years old and I can't get more than a nub of fire out of the burners. The tank is new.

sounds like a spider built a nest in the venturi.. with the gas off find where the black hose connects to the grill. it will hook to a round tube with a screen. use any form of compressed air and blow into the screen. a bicycle tire pump, small air compressor or even a small can of air from the office store for cleaning electronics should do. this should solve the problem for You.

Disconnect everything and take the burner out and scrub the holes, or punch out with a nail or something, If still no betterm get a replacement. It's fairly inexpensive if you are a little handy. just make sure you get the gas connected tightly again, or you will leak gas and fire.
your adapter that hooks to the tank is not a perfect match. been having the same problem. my solotion was to cut a nail agpot a half inck long and place inside the valve of the tank before connecting the hose, sometimes it works,,sometimes it doesnt
the element (thing that the fire comes out of) is dirty, sooted over or rusted out. you can clean it with a piece of steel wool or a wire brush, do not scrub hard, just enough to open up the holes. the gas regulator could be faulty also but doubtful, more than likely the element is clogged or the jet port (end of the hose where gas comes out into the element), it clogged, that needs cleaning also, usually you can get a gas grill cleaning kit, it comes with a thin wire cleaner that is inserted in to this gas jet port, and you clean it out. be sure gas is off, better yet disconected while cleaning.
I'd replace the burner, it's pretty easy to do and you can find new ones at Wal-Mart. Just be sure to measure!
Could be many things, are the burners rusted to where the gas can not pass through the openings?, is the hole plugged in the regular where it screws into the tank, Mud wasps love to build nest in small holes, Is the regulator faulty? remove the hose from the unit and turn the gas on and see if your getting gas and the temperature valve could be faulty so if you have gas pressure to your unit and your burners are clean then it properly is a bad temperature valve. Hope this helps
Regulator could also be bad
The burners are probably rusted out inside and clogging the gas jets, spend a few bucks for new burners.
check the lines running from tank to the burners, being 2 years old it could be rusty if it was outdoors, mostly it is gas that gelled inside the lines, you have to clean the lines.
Dis-connect the tank and use soap and water or kerosene, rinse until it comes clean, dry it, I would wait 12 to 24 hours before re-connecting the lines, hope this helped you
heres what you do...
the new tanks have a different valve than the older ones...
if u turn on the gas valve on the tank while the burner control is in the on position then you will get very little flame..
turn off burners before opening the tank valve...
turn on burners n light...
should work
let me know how the steak turns out.
