I got a 2 ft hole in my apt drywall. Is there an easy step by step method that I can use to fix this myself?

Most studs are 1ft. 2in apart, so you should have 2 exposed studs. Cut your hole into a rectangle as close as you can get it to origional hole. Expose half of width of stud for space to nail. First find out what thickness your existing sheetrock (drywall) is, 1/2in, 3/4in etc. Buy a piece same thickness. Measure hole and cut new sheetrock to 1/8 to 1/4 in smaller than hole. Place new piece in hole, do not force, easy to break, trim to fit and nail to studs with sheetrock nails. Next you need sheetrock tape and mud, a sheetrock knife or a wide putty knife. Mix a small amount of water in mud to make the consistency of thick pancake batter. Spread on one side of rectangle, place tape over seam and with putty knife run knife to remove excess mud and flatten tape. Repeat on all sides. Next after it dries, a day, repeat same process with mud that has a little more water mixed in, little thicker than regular pancake batter, using knife to smooth and use edge to feather edges of mud. Leave just enough mud over tape to cover it. Repeat process after drying another day with thinner mud, but this time after applying mud try and remove all excess. Each time apply mud a further than previous coat to cover any edges of previous days coat. After last coat dries, sand with med. to fine sanding block, lightly, till smooth, then paint. I used to do this for a living and hope this helps. After reading this it may be to your advantage to find someone who knows what they are doing cause if you don't apply it correctly you can end up with a bigger mess than before. Good luck if you attempt it!

Two feet is pretty big. If you're willing to prep it and drywall it yourself it can be fixed. Usually this requires stuffing something into the space to give you a surface to apply the drywall over, like chicken wire.

You will then have to sand and paint the surface so it does not stand out against the rest of the wall.
You need to cut out the drywall back to the stud. Expose 1/2 the width of the stud on both edges of the cut. Buy a piece of dry wall ,cut it to fit, nail it in. Mud the cracks, let it dry, re mud if necessary, sand it off and paint.
It will be a dusty job.
Draw a square line outside of the hole and use a drywall saw or a take a hack saw blade and wrap tape around one end to make a handle if you cut to a stud that is better, then just use a carpenters knife and cut up to 3/4" to expose the stud, now just go to your local hardware and get the size drywall needed along with 1 1/2" drywall screws, 2 lb container of drywall joint compound, roll of self adhesive drywall seam tape, 8" putty knife, sponge and a 8' by 1"x2" pine board. If you didn't find the wall stud cut the 1x2 the length of the hole and place it on the back side and screw it leaving a lip for the new drywall, do this on all four sides, now just put the new drywall
in place and screw it making sure the screw heads just go below the surface, after this is done tape all the joints with the self adhesive tape and then apply the joint compound making sure you apply enough pressure to squeeze it through the tape filling the crack, don't try to make a finish coat the first time just cove the tape and joint, after you have applied the first coat take a damp sponge and lightly smooth out the joint compound and then leave it alone until it dries. Ok now its time for a finish coat, you will want to apply enough compound to get a feather of the joint so apply the compound about 4" from the joint on booth sides by applying more pressure on the putty knife at the side further from the joint, after you have all joints covered again take a damp sponge and feature the compound and let dry. Now you should have a near finished job which will need very little sanding if any. Good Luck
Do you have any buddies who work as carpenters.
