Lawn mower won't start?

Question:When I check the oil on my lawnmower I forgot to put the cap on tight. I started the lawn mower and the oil started to leak out the top. I turned it off as soon as this happened but know the mower will not start. What can I do?

Answers:
I don't think this is why it won't start, unless your air filter got soaked with oil and the motor can't breathe. Try removing the air filter and soaking it in paint thinner if it is oily, do this only if it is a metal one and drying it throughly. If you have a paper filter, replace it if it is soiled. While it is off, use some starter fluid, spray it in the air intake and try starting the motor. If it blows black smoke for a moment, then you had oil in the carb.

let it cool down and clean it off, fill it back up to where it should be, and it should start.
Rick C is correct. I would also just check the other parts of the mower while you are doing some work on it. Check the spark plug, air filter, belts, and blades.
