Pressure regulator cost?
Question:I just paid a plumber $200 because the landlord is absentee and doesn't want to be bothered with minor repairs. All four faucets leaked which cost me $40 per month in wasted water charges.
The plumber, recommended by Service Master, suggested that I replace all the washers, which he did and then tested the water pressure to determine why they were so worn (little balls instead of flat washers). He said the PSI was supposed to be no more than 80 and his tester read 125. The city installed new water lines a few months ago before I moved to CA.
Is a charge of $950 reasonable? I am not paying for this repair but will contact the landlord. I can't believe CA prices!

With a service company it will usually come down to, what is it worth to you. There may be things about this job that make it so expensive maybe an expensive part or a long labored fix, after hours rates ,things like that. I would say for the most part plumbing is a trade that charges hourly not a flat rate fee so that $950 estimate does sound way high.I'm no plumber but i dint think it would take no more than a $250 regulator.(I'm guessing) so at $100 an hour, seems like a 7 hour job.I don't think that it should take 7 hours to change a regulator & 4 washers.I would call for a second opinion. I have a recomendation, I think this forum is local, neighbor, Plumbing By Kirk always takes care of us with fair rates and quality work and may come out for a free estimate.Give him a call (661) 263-6519 he probably services your area.
I'm not a plumber, but I know a little bit about it. If they are going to charge you $950 to put in a water pressure regulator, costs in Wisconsin are way lower! I would think here, I would pay nothing, It's up to the Utility provider to do it. $250 sounds reasonable.
