A/c problem.. help pls.?
Question:the fan in my a/c isn't spinning .. when i turn it on, it makes a sound but no cool air is coming through. sometimes the fan would spin for a few seconds and then stop as though its stuck. i had put some oil and it would work for a while and then stop again.
the rod that holds the fan into the motor is rusted.. can i easily fix that and buy another rod, or do i have to throw the whole thing away and get a new a/c?
Answers:
It appears you have a faulty fan motor.
You have 2 options.
Replace the fan motor or replace the A/C unit.
When you factor in the cost of replacing a fan motor to buying a new A/C unit ( I take it we are looking at a window unit here ) it is more cost effective to buy a new one, especially if the machine is old.
If you bought a new unit you would probably find it to be more efficient and quieter anyway.
Do you still have your instruction manual? You could look up the brand on the net and see about new parts and if it's a common problem.
Take the front panel off, see if there is frost build up on the coils. If so, you may just need to clean out the filter screen. I had the same problem, cleaned the screen well (run under water and scrub clean) and then it worked just fine!
the bearings in the fan motor are seized. The motor will neeed to be replaced. Also the fan motor capacitor will need to be repalced. Call a professional. licensed service person
