Leak in basement after showering upstairs, obvious leak, should I call a plumber or?
Question:Showered upstairs due to remodel in lower bathroom. Came into computer room, heard dripping in closet where wife's clothes are. Found dripping from ceiling and ceiling is soft. Placed bucket there for now.obvious coming from shower drain pipe upstairs...what are your thoughts on what I should do?
Answers:
if it only happens when you have a shower,, no need to turn the water off to the shower valve. the majority of these leaks are 90% due to silicon mastic needs redoing. before you re-mastic, make sure all old mastic is taken off.
good luck
If you're asking instead of finding the leak and figuring out what needs to be repaired / replaced... sounds like maybe call a plumber... LOL
Really not trying to be mean... We all have the things we're good at and the things we never found time to learn... Sounds like plumbing just isn't your thing.
Lock off the water for the night and call a plummer first thing in the morning. .... oooh, right where your wife's clothes are. you're in deep s..h.i..t... if you ruin her stuff!. make sure her stuff does not get wrecked!
Call a Plumber have him take a look and see what he can do to fix the leak...once that's fixed call a drywaller/contractor to fix the area (s) where the leak is...and maybe someone for the floors...
Call to get the plumbing fixed, and then get the water damage repaired.
Shut off water main and call a plumber and remember his bill is saving you a lot of money in damage.
shut off water tonight, call plumber in AM
There should be supply valves (usually yellow) that will shut off only that bathroom water (one for the cold, one for the hot) I would shut BOTH off until you figure out which one it is leaking. Look for pipes in your basement that lead to the bathroom, turning valve perpendicular to the pipe turns it off.
