Book Mould?

Question:My garage leaked and ruined some of my books, but some just have mould on the edges. How can I remove the mould and save the books, the pages are fine they just have mouldy edges.thanks

Answers:
A light coating of fungicide might help stop further spread of the mold (and I do mean a light coating or otherwise it will soak the book as bad as water damage) and a gentle brushing with a sponge will remove as much cosmetic damage as possible. But unless the books are very valuable the time and effort is probably not worth the replacement cost.

Companies who clean up after fires and floods (like Service Star) and some libraries have ozone chambers to put moldy books in. A few days in there and the mold is dead and the smell is gone. We did it with some books that were in our basemant and it worked great.

Ask at your local library- perhaps they know where to find the service.
