What temperature should an ac unit blow at the vent in a residential house??

Question:Right now it's reading around 56-58 degrees @ the vent and it's about 90+ degress outside right now. Should it be colder or is this unit operating OK?

Answers:
Assuming your return air temperature (Room air temp) is about 72 to 74 degrees and your system is 100% recirculated air, you have about a 15 degree air temperature drop across your cooling coil. At 90 degress ambient temperature that is exactly what one would expect a properly operating AC unit to do. I would say you have no problem.

too cold.
If the unit is being operated in cooling mode and it is discharging cold air, it is doing what it is supposed to do. It will not shut off until the air at the thermostat sensor arrives at the set point. It sounds like your unit is OK. Don't mess with it.
