How to change weather stripping, please help?

Question:We just bought a house and need to change the weather stripping in the back doorway and the entry way front door way. We bought the it looks like slide in kind of weather stripping and we are scared that if we take the old out we will not be able to figure out how to get the new in.

Answers:
it sounds like the weatherstrip you are describing is a kerfed-in stripping, where a small groove is cut into the doorstop section of the jamb. If this is the case, then all you need to do, using a dull putty knife or something similar, Is slip the putty knife between the weatherstrip and the doorstop and carefully work it out. Plastic fins hold the stripping in the kerf, but will come out fairly easily if it hasn't been painted into place. Replacing new strip is pretty self explanatory. Use the old pieces as guide to cutting the new ones to length and leave one piece in place as a reference to which direction the new pieces go in
