What is the best primer to make a rough surface smooth?
Question:I am trying to prime a shed outside to paint it but I want to make it smooth first anybody have any good tips on this one?
Answers:
Primer will not fill in the voids of the OSB, which does not make a satisfactory exterior surface because it is porous and not made to stand up to weather, it is exposure 1. It could be made to look better by using an exterior wood filler over the voids, then prime and two coats of paint. I would put some sort of exterior surface treatment such as siding or panels such as Hardi Board on it though, the OSB simply will not last.
i have been a painter for 11 yrs i would say the best wat to make any surface smooth would be good old sanding. depending on surface, use a good quality latex or you could use an apoxy. but if in doors make sure you have very good ventalation
primer won't do it. Pending on what the surface is...I would recommend a skim coat of the entire area, then prime and sand. That is if your talking about interior. If it's exterior then that is different circumstances and require different measures.
if you want a good looking shed, shingle it or put on color lock siding.
You will not get a smooth finish on OSB for less money.
Think of the cost of huge batches of resin, like body filler, then sanded smooth, then painted. Almost like putting a finish coat on a yacht.
