Who do you call to fix a leaky pipe in the wall?
Question:I have a pipe in an exterior wall of the house that is leaking every time I run the clothes washer. I believe it must be the drain. I know it is leaking because water runs out under the siding and down the foundation. The house has T-111 siding and a concrete slab foundation. I don't know if it would be better to cut through the drywall on the inside of the wall or the siding on the outside of the wall to access the pipe, and I'm not sure if I want a plumber, contractor, or someone else entirely to do it.
Answers:
Call a plumber. There should be a clean-out access already installed that looks like a pipe plug behind the washer. If not, he will probably cut through the drywall and install one since that is easier to repair than an external access. Sounds like the drain to me also, but it may just be a sock or something plugging the standpipe that can be fished out with a tape.
Call a plumber. Explain the situation and if a plumber doesn't want to do it then call a contractor. I'd start with a plumber first, though.
plumber, but you may need a contractor after he leaves
A handyman can fix it cheaper. it probably will be a un-glued drain joint. if you can work from outside, its cheaper and easier clean up. don't wait too long. Black mold is already inside walls. Make sure insulation is pulled out , wall bleached and new insulation replaced. good luck!
A plumber will probably "demo" the drywall and fix the drain line. You'll probably need a carpenter to come in and patch the drywall, mud it,finish it,and paint (unless you're willing to do that yourself). Good luck!
do not cut open the wall it will be very hard to repair and you must paint after..lift the house up and reach under to the pipe location clamp it closed .then go back to the TV reruns be sure not to hire a skilled tradesman as they will charge you more per hour than you make per week.I know I am a plumber who charges such amnount.Or Or Or just forget the leak till it causes mold and sue yourself for the problem.Got home owners insurance try to cheat them for the cost of your comon home maintence.or just read these dumb answers and do nothing after all who cares.
Yes call a plumber.
Have him do it from the IN side. it'll cost less. You may have to call a drywall guy after he leaves.
Just a thought, maybe your stand pipe, drain to your washer is plugged and overflowing and not a leak at all but a plug.
Try moving out the washer and taking the drain from the pipe and running a rod down to see if something dislodges, could even be a lint plug. Sometimes complicated is actually an easy fix. If this does not work call a plumber and have him access.
a plumber!!
