When my cenntral A/C turns on i can barely feel any cold air coming out of the vents, what could be wrong?

Question:The outside unit is running, ive opened and closed some vents to add pressure, but nothing. Every thing seems to be running, but my house doesnt cool. Ever once in a while i can feel cool air come out of the vents but thats only about 10% of the time, Could it be the blower?

Answers:
First off, is the air flow just as strong now as when it was cold?

If the airflow is weak it could be the blower motor, or even a clogged filter.

If the airflow is strong but warm it could be low coolant, or the a/c radiator fins are very dirty.

needs to be recharged with A-12 refrigerant. if not that old could be a leak causing the refrigerant to leak out
check to see if the blower is working it could be the motor, or motor belt that's shot.you could have a problem with the condenser fan, this one operates by relays.
If could be almost anything. You could have a coolant leak, a faulty sensor, a faulty switch, a bad compressor, only a pro can help you.
Have you changed the filter recently? It may be clogged and restricting air flow.
My A/C does the same thing, sort of. It works for a while and then I notice hardly any air coming out. I went outside to look at the fan and found all the pipes to it from it had ice all over them. I turned the A/C off for about 15 minutes and it worked fine. It's not "cycleing" properly to prevent that from happening. Maybe there is a thermostate inside the unit itself that tells it to cycle that's broken. i also need more insulation on those pipes. My unit is pretty old and it's not efficient. You may also have a leak in the duct work leading from the unit throughout your house. I think I have one of those too. We had a new unit put into our other house and it worked beautifully! It better, being new. If your unit continuously does not blow out cold air, I'd say the refrigerant needs to be recharged, especially if you do not see ice forming on the pipes in the fan unit and you know you do not have faulty duct work. Hope this helps. If you are located in Southern CA, I know a GREAT A/C guy to call. he installed the one on our other house and did a phenomal job and charged a VERY reasonable price. cstinett@yahoo.com. let me know if you need his info.
do this:
check and/or change filters.

then call HVAC man:

have coil cleaned
get freon level checked
have main return trunk check, could be corrupted
have main lines checked for leaks

lic. gen. contractor
