Lawn mower repair question?
Question:hi. i have a sears craftsman push lawn mower (got it second hand from a friend, probably pretty old). problem is, it is stalling out on me. i typically find it stalls out when i am mowing "downhill" even though the grade of the slop is not that big. any thoughts on what might be happening?

Check the fuel tank for dirt. rust , or a foreign object that could be blocking the outlet fitting when the engine is tilted . You'd be amazed at the things I've removed from fuel tanks in the last forty-five years. Actually, if there's water in the tank, when tilted, it could be getting into the engine because it's underneath the gas in the tank, and will get out into the carb before the gas. Good luck.
I'd check and replace (if needed) the following:
Air Filter
Spark Plug
Gas mixture - assuming it's not straight gas.
If is real old, it may have a float in the carburetor. If so, it is set for too low of a level. Simple to readjust, just remove bottom cover of carb.
Drain gas out of tank, and clean out float bowl. While your at it, i would change the spark plug, and air filter too.
