How can I correct brown spots on my new sod caused by my dog peeing on it?

Question:I just laid new sod in my yard 2 months ago and kept the dog off of it for 1 month. Now each time she pees on it the sod is turning brown in the various spots. How can I revive the dead spots and prevent it from happening agin? Tearing up and replacing with new sod is not an option. Thanks!

Answers:
I would hose out the areas that she pees. If the urine sites are regularly hosed down there shouldn't be a problem.

The grass may not be dead yet so try to give your dog new places to pee, keep the patches clean and watch to see if the sod regains its health.

Water once a day.
I'll tell you what *not* to do .. don't buy all those organic remedies and junk you're supposed to put in your dogs food to prevent it from happening. They don't work. I have tried every solution. Nothing worked .. except -- now, my dog stays inside the house during the day, and I take her out to the neighborhood and parks to walk, so at least the same piece of grass isn't getting pummeled over and over again.

If you could be around whenever your dog pees, soaking that area of the grass at that moment would definitely help to dilute it. But, watering every day is not a good option (and you'd wind up with a fine if you did it in Denver where I live).
