How do I install a water hose without it spraying at the connection?
Question:
Answers:
You did not say what type of connection you had.
So I am going to assume this is a Garden Hose.
The Pressure from the water line will look for the path of least resistance.
The Garden Hose fitting seals on a gasket, so first make sure you have one in the female fitting!
If you do have a gasket, check to see it is in good condition, with no permanent set (compression marks) or cracks.
It might be wise to try a new gasket in any case before proceeding as it would be the cheapest and simplest solution.
Oh Yeah the absolute most common problem with garden hose connections is the gasket seat is not tightened sufficiently, so try tightening it. Obviously do this judiciously.
Leaks at the gasket, for whatever reason, will naturally cause the water to flow around the threads and straight back at the user.
The Garden Hose Thread (GHT) is a straight thread, as such TEFON THREAD TAPE OR THREAD SEALANT SHOULD NOT BE USED, as it will only interfere with properly seating the necessary gasket seal.
plumbers tape and the correct size connection.
teflon tape
make sure that when you're screwing the end onto the faucet/spicket that it's not going on uneven and if you continue to have a problem, you may have to use plumbers tape to keep it from leaking. you can purchase plumbers tape at wal-mart or any other hardware store.
Make sure it has a washer inside the part you are attaching to the wall. Also make sure that washer is not a dried out one from last year or so. Get a package of fresh pliable ones and replace it before connecting. Twist it hand tight after that. If it leaks the hose fitting may be damaged itself and need replacing.
Plumbers tape if the washer does not stop it, there should have been one that came with the water hose, if not you can just get one at the store for a few cents.
use a jubilee clip tighten that up and it should stop it from leaking out
make sure you use a washer inside the screw connector
There is either no hose gasket or the existing one is worn out. For 50 cents at a harware store you can buy a new one or two. Replace the gasket.
