What is the best houshold drill to buy?
Question:Just something for around the house... powerful enough to drill, but will be mainly used for screwing items in.
Answers:
I would get the best drill you can afford, for most household jobs the inexpensive drill would be fine, but the first time you need to do something more heavy duty, you will wish you would have spent a little more. For all around use get one that has variable speed, a clutch (torque setting) and hammerdrill, that will cover most jobs. You also need to consider the longevity of the tool, do you want to buy one now or a new one every few years? If you don't have a preference a corded drill is cheaper and a lot of times more powerful that the low end rechargeable drills (and you don't have to worry about dead batteries when you need to use it). I would stick with the high end brands like Milwaukee, DeWalt, Bosch, Hilti etc. Unfortunately any of my suggestions will cost you over $50, you may be able to find a reconditioned drill in your price range, I have bought a few with no issues. Remember: You get what you pay for.
Skil multi-speed. They are about $40.
Just buy one with a large battery capability. I bought an 18V Black and Decker from Home Depot, and it works very well, and I don't have to recharge it all the time.
12 volt battery operated at least..one of many manufacturers would be fine for your purpose Black and Decker or Dewalt
Well in hopes of trying to help you out with a good quality cordless in the price range that you stated. I searched consumer report. Unfortunately accroding to C.R. 50$ doesn't get you much in the means of quality. But the skil model # 2567-03 was the best model in that price range. But that was for a 14.4 volt. for consumer reports they have a best buy labeled craftsman model 11541, 19.2 v for 120$. It was rated better than some models that were in excess of 200$. I know it is only for around the house but I have found that if you are going to by a product buy it ONE time and be done with it. Then you won't have to worry about if by chance it drops from the top of a ladder or something like. The least expensive 18v I saw on CR was a craftsman model #11537 for 90$. I hope this info was helpful to you. I was just at Lowes and they have a Black and Decker 18v drill for 50$ but here is the good part it is part of a sale/promotion this week until saturday. When you buy the drill you also get a FREE tool (black and decker cordless). The selection includes a skill saw , jig saw , reciprcating saw, a flash light and a hand vacuum. Go for one of the saws. The skil saw costs 69$ reciprocating saw is 59$ and the jig saw is 49$. I went and got one my self today and was hoping i would be able to go back to this answer and let you know. I hope you read this in time . It really is a great deal . And the drill comes with a carrying case a charger and an extra battery....
