I hired a local plumber to unclog a kitchen sink drain, they get $179. He couldn't get it unclogged.?
Question:After he left I took matters into my own hands and was able to unclog it myself. How much should he get?
Answers:
The payment should have been negotiated before he left. The service call and his labor will probably need to be paid. If you just "let it go" and feel you don't owe him anything, you will probably get a bill later or find a contractors lein on your property. Take care of the details as quickly as possible so everything is fresh in everyones mind.
If they were a licensed plumbing outfit they should have guaranteed their work or not have charged you. Their actions are totally unprofessional. They should get nothing.
If a professional gave up without resolving the problem, I would give them zero.especially if you did it yourself after the dude left.
Send them back a note with the invoice stating that you will not be paying because he didn't fix what you hired him for and had to have someone else finish the job.
No pay til sick is working!
If he couldn't get it unclogged he shouldn't get paid.
the plumber should get nothing since he did not solve the problem you did, next time ask, someone who knows before you call in a fly by night person.i never heard of a plumber that could not unclog a sink drain,if he didn't"t he is not a plumber.
