How can I cover an electrical junction box in a ceiling without concealing it? Are there decorative covers?

Question:I'm drywalling in an old house and found a junction box in a ceiling. Concealing box is not permitted under code. I don't want an ugly metal box cover peaking through my nice new ceiling an am wondering if anybody knows of any nicer looking removable covers that I can use to conceal the hole and the box.

Answers:

Can you make a wood cover with a door? That is what we have around ours and it looks very nice.
they do make decorative surface mount boxes and covers used alot on cement walls and ceilings where you can't recess them in,try an electrical supply company like kirby risk, they also make decorativer plates for regular type boxes, like out of stainless steel or brass, plastic ect., you can get them at home improvement stores
Yes, there are decorative covers available!
Use a switch or plug cover. ~
if you paint the ceiling in a paisley sort of pattern (including the door on the junction box) , the junction box door would sort of vanish in the intricacy.
WHen I was remodeling an old house, I took apart one of the old pendant (chain style) light fixtures that I took down and painted it silver to cover an old box. I removed the hook for the chain and plugged the hole with a small metal plug before painting. Worked great.

You can get covers at the home stores though. You will be limited to the selection on hand for this sort of thing.

5 years later, I took down the cover and put in a ceiling fan.
