I keep getting sand in my pool! I have a cartridge filter, so where's it coming from?
Question:I just installed a new above-ground pool this season, and a few days after, I noticed a small pile of sand in the center. I don't think it's a liner leak, so could it maybe just be too fine for the filter to pick up? How do I get it out of there?

IF THIS SAND IS IN THE MIDDLE, IBET YOU HAVE A ROUND POOL. THE CURRENT CREATED FROM YOUR FILTRATION IS DEPOSITING THERE. COULD BE FROM FEET, BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR GETTING MORE THAN FEETS WORTH. I USE AN OLD BABY BATH ON DECK TO RINSE FEET BEFORE ENTERING MY POOL. MOST INSTALLERS USE FINE MASON SAND UNDER THE LINER. YOU PROBABLY HAVE A TINY HOLE IN THE BOTTOM. GET A GOOD FACE MASK AND SEARCH THE BOTTOM OF THE LINER. LOOK FOR WHAT LOOKS LIKE A TINY ERUPTION. THAT WILL BE WHERE YOUR SAND IS COMING FROM.YOUR CARTRIDGE MAY HAVE A HOLE ALSO.AGOOD CARTRIDGE WILL STOP THE SAND. TO REMOVE THE SAND JUST USE THE SKIMMER HOSE AND VACUUME IT UP. YOU CAN BUY UNDER WATER PATCH KITS. IF YOU DID THE INSTALL YOU MAY BE AT YOUR OWN MERCY. YOU SHOULD HAVE A WARRENTY ON THE LINER,OR YOUR INSTALLER COULD BE LIABLE. HOPE I WAS OF SOME HELP. GOOD LUCK
Did you make any of your Neighbors mad lately... they may have thrown it over the fence... I threw a chunck of dirt over the fence one time but they deserved it.
It can come from people's swimmers! Our kids go to the beach.. come home and hte next thing we know our pool has sand in it.
Also, if you have sand soil in your vicinity it will find its way into your pool on peoples feet.
I'm sorry, but I have to admit that I have been coming over at night and throwing sand in your pool.

it comes from peoples feet and hair even the wind can carry it in did your pool come with a skimmer hose
Depending on where you live, it might be critters too. Raccoons will wash their paws in water while eating. And if a duck lands in it you will get some sand. But chances are it is just that it is a new pool and excess debris is settling.
