I want to remove a toilet...what will I find?

Question:I bought an existing home. They put a bathroom in by the laundry room. Toilet only, no sink. I'd like to remove the toilet and open this whole room up as additional pantry space. What will I need to do to cover the floor drain? And is this reality? I know to turn off the water supply and I'd be ok...but, I'm more worried about the floor part and where the toilet sits.

Answers:
If you do not know what you are doing, get a plumber to deal with the pipes. The drains from toilets do not have traps in them (the trap is actually in the design of the toilet). If you simply take the toilet out and cover the hole, you will have sewer gas leaking into your pantry.

If you actually know how to properly cap off pipes, go for it. It is an easy job if you know what you are doing. If you are the advernturous do it yourself type, there are plenty of books that will tell you how to do the job.

The last one is how to move a toilet, you only follow the first half of the instructions. Hope this helped some.

You need to know what material the drain line for the toilet is. If it is accessible from a crawlspace or basement, it is an easy DIY job. A cap secured to the pipe will do the job. Different materials call for different methods.
just be sure you want it gone, leave the supply water line, just in case of anything, seal the sewer line,or a foul smell will be enjoyed by all.
