What is wrong that my garage door opener remote will open the door while in the garage, but not outside.?

they are right first check the batteries, but if that fails then the eye of the sensor on the opener it self might need a litte cleaning, dust forms over the sensor eye and blocks out the weaker signal from a distance...
I agree check the batteries. If that doesn't work maybe it is time for a new one. You can get them at most hardware stores and they are pretty easy to program them to your garage. Just get one that is the same brand as your unit, probably run you about 20 bucks.
There is also a little antenna that needs to be facing toward the front of the garage not back sideways or straightup.
