Well if you could patch it not sure if it would hold the pressure. If you talking about a Central Air unit you will need to have someone come out and check and see what can be done. As it is required that only a Certified Technician can use/handle R-12 coolant. Other than that the high end pressure might be too much for even jb weld to hold. Good luck.
First the water in the drain area is there to help in cooling the effect for the air cooled condenser.
Second, due to the amount of pressure and oil that was in the system, the JB Weld will not hold. You need to remove that section and install a new section by silver brazing.
Third, most window units are not cost effective to repair, plus you will need to evacuate the unit down to around 1000 microns before you recharge the unit, this is to remove all air and moisture.
Try taking the unit to a school that teaches HVAC and see if they need a project for the students. They may be able to repair the unit for a small fee (parts and refrigerant).
Easy fix, Just call around to some of the A/C repair shops and see if they can do silver solder a hole and recharge your window unit if you bring it in, it should only take a few minutes to solder the hole and then purge the system from air and recharge totalling maybe 30 minutes.
It Should Be Brazed. Freon lines are High Pressure. By the time you have somebody repair it you could buy a new one.
Chalk it up to a lesson well learned. It's $300.00 repair. If it was running at the time, you can add the price of a new cap tube.
