How and can you fill up your home air conditioning unit with freon by yourself?
Question:
Answers:
you can not it is against the law
Have to have a license to buy freon. Bite the bullet and call a pro.
very rarely does a sealed system window shaker a.c. need freon, unless you know for sure it has a leak. If so you need the leak fixed. I would try cleaning the condenser on the back of the unit and make sure the evap filter is clean. pull the front off of the unit, and you will see the return coils on the side of the evap. turn the unit on, and keep an eye on the return coils, you should start to see frost, as the freon feeds through the unit. until the last row. last but not least, block the evap coil for a few with something, then watch for the frost turning real frostie on the return bends, if so, freon is ok.
You need a vacuum pump to evacuate the system first. I've never seen one for rent and the price of a new one will pay for a professional to refill it. PLus a pro will know, maybe it doesn't need a fill and if it does is there a leak to be repaired?
Some things just are not DIY
Don't even go there.
The consequences of attempting this are not worth it.
If you knew what the fines were for doing this I do not think you would contemplate trying this, never mind the danger.
Final note, you haven't a hope in hell of getting it right anyway.
Sorry to sound fierce but I want to stress that you are asking the wrong question, you should be asking, who can I hire who is qualified to carry out this type of repair.
