Should I leave the airconditioning on if I leave the house fpra while ?

Question:I have central airconditioning in my apartment. Should I turn it off or leave it on every time I step out for a little while ? How about a couple of hours ? My concern is of course, conserving enery and keeping the air conditioning in optimum condition.

Answers:
Turn it up to a higher level; 74 or so if it's hot outside. Takes less energy to maintain than to bring down from 80/90

you could look into getting a digital thermostat. You can program it to a warmer temp when you are gone (like at work). I wouldn't worry about the times when are stepping out for just a few minutes.
No, don't bother if you're going out for less than an hour. But if you're stepping out for more than an hour, you can save by turning it off--if you don't mind it being a little hotter when you get back.

The cooler your apartment is, the more the heat tries to get in. So it's a myth that it takes less electricity to maintain the temp than to re-cool after leaving the AC off.

The best is to have a programmable thermostat.
depending on how long you are going to be away and the outside tempt, leave it around 78degrees and when you get back set it around 73 degrees.
