I have two old metal rocking chairs covered with rust, how do I clean these?
Question:I did not whether to sand them down and then spray them with rustoleum... or is there a special solution to get the rust off? thanks!

First clean off the chairs of dust and dirt. Get a wire brush and brush off the rusted areas . get a can of red oxide spray paint (about .96 cents at wal-mart) and spray over the chair. Red Oxide will inhibit the rust from further deteriorating your chair. It dries quickly so after you've painted the chair, spray paint whatever color you want!
the best way is the old way elbow grease and sand paper
An electric drill will a wire cup will take off the rust quite well. Put on two coats of Sears Rust Inhibiting primer and two coats of exterior paint.
I think sanding would be the best way to get it off yourself.
You might could find someone who does sandblasting and they can get it off that way.
A wire brush is the best way to take rust off metal. It's hard work but it shouldn't take too long to do. After you get it all off, take some mineral spirits and wipe them down and allow to dry for about an hour and them paint them with a primer and follow up with some enamel rustoleum
I think there is this stuff at ace hardware that removes rust,
check the paint solutions isle at the hardware store.
Clean chairs with dry cloth. Liberally apply RustAid and lift/scrub the rust with cleaning brush. Dry cloth again. Repeat RustAid and lift/scrub the rust with cleaning brush. Rinse with with clean cool water. Dry off. Lightly sand with 220 grit sandpaper. Dust off or Tack cloth. Then apply your Rustoleum metal primer. Let dry. Apply finish coat of Rustoleum metal paint.
Try to used sand papper and also anti rust spray.
for finishing.use autosol or braso to polish the chair...i really hope it help.if it doesn't work.if you still want to use that chair.u should color it with spray paint...ask somebody who expert to do that work.it will look like new again.
