My central air vents leak water why?
Question:Yes, I wanted to know if anyone knows why my central air vents leak water, its very annoying because my sons bedroom is getting all wet and moldy. Anyone know why it drips out but the bucket fills up quickly.
Answers:
It's probably very humid in the house. Keep the A/C on constantly and use a dehumidifier until you get it under control. Insulating the ductwork might help, but that really shouldn't be necessary.
no insulation on vent,or hot air is passing over it.
Generally things condensate on the warm side of a cold item. Like a glass of ice water on a warm day. If this is a furnace unit with a condensor outside and an A-coil on the furnace, you may be picking up condensation off the coil. AC is suppose to take the moisture from your return air and pull it off at your a-coil. I would check to make sure the condensate drain is not pluged. Water should drip out of it slowly into a drain when the unit is running. Another common problem is that your freon could be getting low in the unit and this causes freezing. You could be getting close to this point. There may be some ice build-up and the air passing by it is picking up moisture. Check the condensate drain first and then call a professional.
