Answers:
They make a screw extractor and it works by drilling a hole in the end of the screw and tapping the extractor in and then you twist the screw out. If you are not afraid to mess up the area around the screw you could use a dremel and cut a new straight slot and find a screw driver to match the slot and do it that way,
I had this problem with my bicycle shoe one time. I got a drill bit that was about the same size as the screw and just drilled it out. They make ez outs that you can buy at any hardware store that will work. You can also get a drill bit that is made the opposite of a normal bit. Reverse your drill, and sometimes that will back the screw out. Good luck.
With a hack saw blade or a rotary tool cut a "flat head slot" in it. Go deep enough to not mess it up again.
you can use what is called "screw out" its a damaged screw remover. You can pick them up at pretty much any hardware store. Sears also sells them. Or you can just drill out the screw.
Once in a while you can use a hand impact wrench to get the screw turning. Put a phillips bit in the impact and hit it with a hammer. When you hit them they turn a small amount (make sure it's turning the right direction) and also drives the point into the head of the screw. I've removed a lot of screws this way. Good luck!
If the screw head is not counter sunk, try a pair of vise grip pliers. If you can get to the screw head this has work in the past.
If it is not raised up then you will likely need to drill out the screw and use an e-z out tool. They are simple to use and you can find one anywhere a good tool supply is sold.
The other option is to use a punch and a hammer to try and break the screw loose be tapping against one side of the head. This is likely to cause damage to tehe screw, so you would be better of with the e-z out.
