How do you get rid of an odor if you have no idea where the odor is coming from. It's in an appartment.?
Question:we have searched the appartment and found nothing. no foods or drink. recently cleaned professionally, carpets as well. no pets. It's a spoiled or rancid milk type smell. We have moved all furniture and found nothing underneath. The smell also comes in waves.
Answers:
Ozone machine. Shock the appartment with ozone. You can normally rent one of these unit from a cleaning supply place. It will kill mold, mildew, smells, everything.including your pet.
Rent it for a few $. Plug it in, turn it on wide open and get the heck out of dodge. Go shopping or out to eat. After a few hours come back and shut off the machine. The house will have a metallic smell to it. Open all your windows and doors and let the house air out for about 15 min. Turn on your a/c and any circulation fans you may have during and after the treatment.
This is what the pro use and sometime the only thing that will work.
After you have set out the vinigar, baking soda, and all the other home remidies; hit the yellow page and find you an ozone machine for rent.
what type of heat do you have? if its forced air the maybe something in the ductwork. good luck
Could be something in the AC ducts, or mold underneath the carpet. If the padding gets wet (like when its cleaned), it will usually mold. if that is what the problem is-you will need to remove the carper and have it cleaned and dried outside and replace the padding. Clean floors while padding is removed.
It may be cheaper to have it all removed, floors cleaned and new carpet and pad installed.
You should never allow anyone (professional or not) to wet a carpet in order to clean it.
Your landlord should be taking care of this problem for you. I work at an apartment community and would never let a resident suffer with an odor in their home and not do anything about it. Ask your management for a solution, that is why you pay rent!
the smell could be mold under the carpet, typical with most apartments
get rid of your rugs,if someone had a pet that peed all over the rugs or cat pee, you will not get rid of smell by cleaning rugs.
