How do you remove a lift and turn drain to get hair out?
Question:In my bathtub, there's a lift and turn drain and the drain has become clugged with hair. How do you get the lift and turn to come completely out of the drain to remove the hair? I've tried turning it and unscrewing it, but it just won't come out! Any ideas how to get it out? Thanks!
Answers:
make sure you're turning the right direction and it should lift out. after you reach in (gross I know) and pull out the hair put something chemical to dissolve what is still in there. otherwise your back to square one right away
Some of these drains have a "squeeze and pull" setup - you lift it up as much as you can, then squeeze the sides under the top to release it from the drain pipe. I just tried mine, and this is how I got it out: I lifted it up as hard as I could, and unscrewed it counterclockwise. Out it came!
While you have it "lifted", in the open position, there will be a "Set Screw" that hold the stopper onto the shaft. Little hard to find but it is there. Look on the "bottom" of the stopper. it is there. Back out screw enough to lift stopper of the shaft, but don't screw it all the way out (May fall into drain)
Good Luck
Pull up and turn to the right
