What is the best way to repair a wall that a pet has chewed through?

Question:My dog bit through a wood panel that is part of a door frame. The paint has come off and the wood is splintered; the damage is about 6 inches long. Any suggestions on repairing it?

Answers:
If it is the door the only good answer is to replace it. If it is the frame you may be able to cut the piece or pieces above the damaged area and and patch in some new trim pieces. If you have no experience with finish carpentry you may want to hire someone because to get a patch to look right is not all that easy.
