Help my friend with a problem with her swimming pool?
Question:My friend has a 3 1/2' X 16' vinyl doughboy pool with filter and has what appears to be algae of some sort growing along the bottom of the pool, grey-brown in color, which when vaccuumed up will reappear within two hours. She has used 4 different types of algaecide, and all of her water tests well for chlorine, pH, alkanlinity levels. She has followed the advice of the pool place in town, and is using shock treatment and chlorine granules. She has used Algaegard, Ultima Total Control (shock and algaecide), Algae Control and Copper Algaecide for black algae.
She is ready to fold the pool up for summer unless anyone
can help and is saying "phooey on doughboys!"'
I kind of wanted to go swimming this summer, haha, any ideas?

They have a very simple page on how easy it is to take care of your water without the scrubbing stuff.
if you want to swim you MUST work for it.. get on your hands & knees and scrub it with diluted bleach or toilet cleaner
I use something in our pool called "Black Algaecide". It will kill any and all forms of algae and then it can just be vacuumed up. It cost about $20 a quart so it is a little pricey, but does the trick. We have a big pool and one quart will clear it up for the summer.
Grey-brown is a bit odd. But I'd try Coral Seas Yellow Out exactly as per label instructions. No brushing required, just apply and run pump for 24 hours. Vacuum and give the filter a good cleaning. Add chlorine afterwards as the Yellow Out causes it to be consumed in the process. If it doesn't work take a water sample to the pool store (they're loving you by now) and ask them to test for metals, iron especially.
Make sure she is keeping her filter clean, with all that algae it takes no time to clog.
