6 yr old Rheem AC unit;- Compressor not running, but 240 v. is getting it. Could it be bad already?

Question:

Answers:
Is it the compressor or the motor driving it? ~
A fuse? The connection between motor and compressor? You sure the power is getting to the motor?

i also have a rheem, check the reset button on the unit where the refrig tubes come in, my sometimes will kick out its a high pressure reset button.another way to eliminate the compressor hold the contactor down with a screwdriver see if the comp comes on i think your comp is a sealed unit ,the motors inside
You have power to the terminals on the compressor or to the unit? if you have all the way to the compressor and it is not running it is bad. If you have power to the unit and the compressor is not running there a few things that could be wrong, bad capacitor, bad contactor, burnt wires or contacts.
Check to see if you get 24 volts to the contactor when calling for cooling If nothing happens then the contactor could need to be cleaned or replaced, check the contacts sometimes earwigs get into them or they get carboned up.If you don't get 24v then the problem may be the low voltage wiring back to the furnace, the thermostat,or the transformer.
