How do i get rid of mold in my basement area?
Question:I got some mold on the walls of my basement after a flood. Now, there are these somewhat red spots in the carpet, and there's little pieces of [of what look like pasta] growing out of it. They are in shades of cream to brown. How do i get rid of that [pasta thing] and some mold on the walls without my parents finding out?
If my parents find out, I'm in a lot of trouble.
Answers:
You have to get rid of the moisture. You will need to run a dehumidifier for a while to get the moisture out of the concrete. Once the dehumidifier goes from running most of the time to about 2 hours in a day, you can clean everything with a strong bleach solution to get rid of the leftover mold.
The carpet will most likely have to go. If nothing else, you will be left with stains.
Whether you get in trouble or not, you will have to get rid of the mold ASAP. Some (certainly not all) kinds of mold are very toxic and can make you very ill.
On the walls, apply bleach from a spray bottle. Put some filter (cloth or similar - paint mask) on your face when doing that so you don't inhale it! ~
On the carpet, it will bleach the carpet. Use some detergent with a brush. Use rubber gloves.
You didn't cause the flood, did you? ;-)
Good luck keeping this one from your parents!
You have to get rid of the excess moisture first using a dehumidifier. After that you can clean...As far as the carpet is concerned, pitch it. You'll never get it clean.
Remember, with parents honesty is the best policy!
get the basement as dry as possible, spray the walls with a mixture of bleach and water or buy some tilex that is made for mildew, don't use bleach on the carpet rent a steam cleaner and steam clean the carpet with some good quality carpet cleaner, good luck
