Can not get a window up in my house?

Question:I live in a house that is 52 yrs old with all original windows. I could not tell you the last time one of my living room windows was pulled up. I can not seem to get it to budge at all. Any suggestions?

Answers:
just punch it! or havesomeone come in a replace them

you need a little hammer, go around the whole frame tapping it, it could be painted closed, genty level it up. spray with light oil or wd 40 to keep it moveing
take the two side moldings off that hold the window in, then you can work on it easily.
Slip a prybar under it and slowly lift it up
If you are planning on buying new windows (maybe double hung with ease of up/down and with screens like from some reputable place like Pella), then replacing would not be a problem. If your windows have not budged in years perhaps some oil (like 3 in one oil) on all four sides inside and out and let that sit, "might" help them move. If they are that old perhaps the wood has bowed and they can't be opened. Ha..that may be your security, knowing that no burglar can get thru those windows. If you are confident that you have the strength to punch a window out in an emergency then you're ok. If you need air then get a couple of fans to move the air or have a ceiling fan installed . Or buy an air purifier. Remember to always buy from reputable dealers. Ask for references from your friends and neighbors.
get a window scraper and scrape all around the inside edge of window till you remove all dry paint, then little by little push up till it moves, been their done that.
