Does an electric fan waste more electricity the AC?

Question:I' am trying to save money on my eletric bill

Answers:
I just saw a commercial the other day saying that ceiling fans are a lot more efficient than an AC. Just got an apartment, so I'm trying to do the same. we'll see how that goes.

ceiling fans are a lot more cheaper to operate than ac. a 12000 btu ac will consume about 1.2 kw (1200 watts) per hour compared to about only 180 watts for a ceiling fan. a ceiling fan though does not really lower a room temperature. it only provides a "wind chill".
Storm is right. However, the main benefit from A/C is not the cooling. A/C, unlike ceiling fans, can lower humidity levels. High humidity is what makes us uncomfortable, not higher temperatures.

A fan will do the job most of the time, but for those miserably humid times, I'd recommend getting a small (5000btu or so) window unit for your bedroom. At least you could be refreshed for work after those rare days when a fan just won't do the job.
