How to test for mold in the home?

Question:i saw an air test for mold at the hardware store. how effective are these?

Answers:
These kits are only good if you know what you are looking for.
They can show some airborne mold spores if you have a good supply of mold in the house or in your ductwork. Unless you have some leaks in your roof, plumbing or your siding, mold shouldn't be a big problem in your home. In fact, if you are checking for airborne mold, at certain times of the year, you will find many more mold spores outside than in your home. If you think you have a bad mold problem in your home, contact a specialist. They can tell you if you have a problem and if so, what kind of problem you have and a solution to your problem.

I haven't heard about an air test, but I did buy one for sampling mold. You take a sample of the mold (or suspected mold) and put it in a petri dish and send it to the lab. They'll send a report back with the results.
