Septic or City Sewer - In both cases, time to call the professionals. Last thing you want is Poop backing up into your basement.
Since we don't know the layout of your home, slab foundation flooring or basement and your plumbing layout is..
Check your floor drain in your laundry room (if in the basement) That should be the lowest and last drain in your home prior to it leaving the house. If water is flowing through that drain, then the problem is higher. If the problem is below the floor drain, chances are you would have already had poop back flowing up from the floor.
You should have a clean out valve, somewhere in the lower part of the soil stack. If you can find it, open that up and try snaking from that point.
Most systems should have backup valve that help keep the system from backing up into your home. Make sure you don't go past that stop since you can possibly damage the flap.
In my home, my backup valve or (Backwater Protection Valve) is accessible in my basement, just prior to the pipes leaving the house. If you have one, then you could open that up and snake from there.
If there is no lower clean out port, then its time to call the plumber where they have longer snakes.
Your septic tank is full - get it pumped.
This happened to me before as well...it's a pain in the ***, but it has to be done about every 5 years.
If you have a septic or holding tank, it needs to be pumped out.If you have city sewer, you should call a plumber
**and to the poster before me: you should have it done ever 2-3 years...not every 5, and if you have a filter, that needs to be cleaned out every 6 months, which is something the homeowner can do.The sludge ends up building up in the tank, then into the pipes...gets expensive if you need to have it jetted out...I would NEVER go more than 3 years...
email me with more info . are you on sewer or do you have septic tank. the main line could have roots grown through it if you have tress planted close to line. main line could be stopped up or you could have a full septic tank
Do you have an outlet for city water? Have you run all the way to where the city should pick up? If there is nothing wrong inside your house to your property line, it could be something with the city...if you have city water. If that's the case, call the city.
