Hot water faucet on sink causes "machine gun like noise" when turned on.?

Question:Whenever I turn on the hot water side of my faucet only, I get this machine gun like sound and the spigot spits out the water little bursts along with the noise. I had the faucet changed recently and did not have this problem prior to getting the new faucet installed. Any ideas as to what might be causing this? Also, when I have the hot and cold on together there is no noise. It works perfectly fine.

The guy above me maybe onto something. But the most common cause of this problem is simply a worn out tap washer. Seriously! I am a plumber and have fixed this many times. Everyone always thinks its air in the pipes, but they are wrong. Change your tap washer for starters, you may find that the rubber has separated from the jumper, or stem piece.

You may have something clogging the hot water faucet. Get a professional to look at it.
You have air in your pipes... Are you on a well, or the city system? We had that happen, and it was because our well was starting to run dry (it was a particularly bad year for rain)... Also I think we changed the water filters and that helped too somehow.
no no no air or no need to call pro. It is a loose washer that is screwed into the bottom of the stem. Just turn off the hot and cold and unscrew the stem for the faucet. Look on the bottom of the stem and you will see a black washer with a brass screw going through it. Tighten it up. Then screw the stem back on and put handle back on. Good to go.
This is called "water hammer".

Don't be alarmed by the extreme examples in the link. Likely, all you have is air building up in your hot water. As it exits the faucet, the water directly behind it slams into the insides of the pipe..making the noise. Kinda like water line flatulence. Likely, the line from your valve to the faucet is now smaller and is backing up the hot water.

Have you recently increased the temperature on your water heater? That may cause the hammering too.

If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself and you had someone install your new faucet, this is something that the person can return and address easily.

Good luck.
Everyone answered well but incorrectly. The problem is the divert er. On some Fixtures (namely "Delta") it can be repaired, others it has to be replaced all together.
you have a loose washer turn off the water and pull the stem out of the faucet the washer needs to be tightened
sounds like you have what is called water hammer, and is caused by air in the pipes. generally it goes after a few days, and generally occurs after you have plumbing done to your house or the council tinkers with the water pipes in your area

oh and try the washer thing.. like richo suggests.

seriously richo have had this a few times after council have done work in my area and it clears up after a few days the only thing i can think of is the air in the pipes but if you say it isnt so i will believe you.
