Help! Awful odor coming from our refrigerator when the door is opened.?
Question:It's a two year old bottom freezer model. We have completely emptied and cleaned both top & bottom sections with no luck. Even tried the baking powder thing. Smells like rotting garbage or something died; but where? It's very embarassing, any ideas?
Answers:
Reempty and reclean.
Pull the fridge out and clean the floor and wall area behind it. It could be a problem in the condensor, the drip pan, or something behind the fridge. The heat of the fridge's motor may be making the odor worse.
If you can't easily locate the source, spray the inside, outside and especially the underside with this stuff called Approach. It's fantastic and it will completely eliminate the odor and help kill any mold or whatnot that's causing it.
If the odor's cause by a dead animal of some sort, remove the source and then spray heavily with it and it will help clean and deodorize completely.
Give it a shot it's great stuff and it's totally safe for the kitchen.
Good luck!
maybe something is dead under it.
Find the drip pan, it is probably underneath and clean it out.
Did you check to see if there is a drip pan under the fridge or water standing under it? Also when you slide it out, you might want to see if perhaps a mouse died behind the fridge. Good luck.
I agree w/ the other responses - check to see if there's something dead under the fridge.
Try seeing if there's anything behind the actual thing. Maybe some food fell there, or maybe it's a dead rat (they like hidding behind refrigerators. Anyway, if you can't find anything, maybe some food found it's way underneath, or in between the door. If you can't find anything, then I am completely amazed.
its probably something dead
We had this problem; turns out it was ice cream that had melted and spilled into the gasket around the doo.r
Smelled just like something rotten or dead. We took the gasket off , cleaned it really well and put it back on; No more smell. It your gasket is torn you can buy new ones fairly cheap.
