My house will not get below 76 in daytime sometimes it gets as high as 78 in my house!!?

Question:I have my air running nonstop, I also had the unit checked repairman stated i do not have a problem. Help me keep my house cool.

Answers:
Your a/c can only transfer so much heat out at a time, if it's too hot outside it may be impossible, but here are some tips;
1. Reduce light coming in- if you have a bright place the light is radiating in heat
2. Reduce heat from electronics- if you have twenty large electronic items running 24/7 that doesn't help
3. Reduce are air seepage- weather strip your windows or other points of energy loss.
4. If your evaporator coils (the part of the ac that's outside) is in a warm area (direct light or in the dryer exhaust) this will decrease efficiency.
5. If your evaporator coils have an obstructed air stream this will also reduce cooling, if a plant is blocking the air, prune it.
6. a non a/c method you can also use is wetting your roof, it will cool down your attic, which if your house isn't insulated well will cool down your house.

isnt 78 cool enough?oh you can put thick blankets or curtains on your windows.and or put the water wprinkler on out in the yard, make sure you have no windows on the sunny side open. plant lots of trees and bushes in your yard. have lots of house plants inside and lots of plants outside. open windows at night and close them in the heat of the day. good luck
Be sure the filter is clean, also run a regular fan (maybe a desk size or box fan) to help circulate the cool air, that should help.
Close all the curtains and blinds. Run fans throughout the house. Put weatherstripping around all the doors, and caulk the windows. Install extra insulation in the attic.
I have that same problem. Except the downstairs stays cold and the upstairs stays hot. What I've assumed is my problem is that vents are in the floor. And because cold air doesn't rise it stays as low to the ground as possible.

Is your house really hot in the winter. My upstairs is hot in the winter, and my downstairs is really cold.

If you have any ceiling fans change them so they suck air up instead of pushing it down. That way it will suck up the cold air and distribute it more evenly around your house. Plus it never hurts to get a few box fans. They're cheap and can help circulate that low lying cold air.
when I had this problem, I put more insulation in my attic and some duoble windows in place of the old ones . this cut my utility bill in half and now my ac does well. Also I had my ac cleaned.
For one thing hang white shutters over all of your windows, white doesn't absorb heat lke darker colors, two, you really need to invest in good insulation in the attics, walls, and around the edges of the windows. If you have wood floors underneath carpet or not, check for openings that let cooled air escape. Additionally, I say invest in some cieling fans with the reversal buttons. Our new house has all the things i am describibg and we were able to get our house daown to 50 degrees in less than twelve hours. however we maintain 75 degrees and it might come on once in the night and my wife counted three times during the day.
Hope these tips are helpful:

If you have mini blinds, keep them closed during the day when the sun is shining inside your windows. Turn the slats upward to keep the sun from filtering in.

If you don't have mini blinds, just keep your drapes closed. You want to keep the sun out throughout your home

Make sure all windows are kept closed

If you have a basement, keep the door closed, so the air won't go down there

If there are rooms in your home that you're not using, close the doors & close the registers, so the air will be redirected to another room

Keep your front & back door closed at all times

Change your filter every thirty days

I keep my C/A digital thermostat set at 77 degrees & we don't touch it.maybe you should get one also. That way, you preset the temp & leave it alone
Everyone is telling you all these crazy things to do. If you really want to quit futzing around and solve the problem go down to a big box store and buy a powerful window unit for the room or rooms that are most bothing you. They are cheap and even come with remote controls now. When you feel the cool you'll be glad you made the right decision to actually solve the problem instead of playing around!
Rule of hvac 500 sq ft per ton model number on out door unit frig#$%^%#@042jhfsrnbmlk=042 42000 btu 31/2 ton 1750sq ft. filter clean indoor coil clean do you use pleated filter its one of the best go out side use garden hose NOT pressure washer spray coils rinceing from top to bottom. after it drys [leave it running] the copper line coverd with foam insulation should be cold and wet if not its low on refrigerant. service call plus about 125.00 use dish soap on main connections ai indoor and out door unit where it connects if you see bubbles tell service tech. Tampa fl. luck
Get a bigger ac unit.??
Hopefully the tech, checked the filter/evaporator coil, as well as the condensor coil, these need maintenance frequently, filter every 3 months or so, condensor at least wash thoroughly before summer each year. Did you by any chance discuss the capacity of the unit at your home with the tech? if this problem with cooling your house has been ongoing year to year the unit is probably undersized, if its recently a new problem, get a tech to recheck and tell him as many details as possible, it helps us out alot!, good luck with your ac.
