I recently purchased a Harbor Breeze 52" Aero ceiling fan. Is there a way to install it w/o the down rod?
Question:It says there are 2 ways to install it on the outside of the box but only gives instructions on the inside to install it with the down rod. I want it so it is close to the ceiling b/c our ceilings aren't very high.

Most ceiling fans can be installed "dual mount".
Either with the down rod or w/o. It is not a true flush mount fan because it still uses the ceiling canopy. Just no down rod.
They call it a "close mount"

Jeena, check out the instruction pamphlet that came with it. Usually, it tells you the way to install it without the hanging rod. I have hanged lots of fans and their installation instructions give you choices so can adapt it to your ceiling height and for the most, you end up with extra parts.
Basically, the motor housing is bolted directly to the ceiling shroud before the fan is hung, leaving the down rod behind. It will take another person to hold the fan up while the wires are being connected, but other than that it is pretty simple.
