My basement is flooded. Water up to my thighs. Help!!!?
Question:It has rained really bad today and I have a drain in the laundry (which is in the basement) and water came from there. Please help!
Answers:
1st - that is likely a sanitary drain. you do not need to go into the basement if at all possible. Waste shares the same lines.
2nd - Rent a/an commercial/industrial sump pump from HD or a rental company. Get as much out as possible.
3rd - Call the local water authority and see if this is a problem you can expect to see every time you get a lot of rain. If so, invest in a backup pump(runs on water pressure).
Maybe a larger than 1/2 Hp pump if the water gets that bad that fast.
4th-After your mess is cleaned up, have a new sump pump installed. Get a Ridgid from HD(they have a lifetime warranty)
Call a plumber or rent a pump, if you are handy.
Buy a submersible sump pump. There are many types and sizes to choose from at Home Depot, Lowes (was best for me). Some very basic ones are at very low prices. Use or buy the appropriate hose to run up and out to a good area to drain downhill.
for about 150$ you can get a good sump pump at Lowe's or the depot install in accordance with the instructions and it should come on automatically when the water in your basement gets to a certain level. as for now go get one hook a garden hose to it and pump it out
