Word to describe the head of a phillips screw where the head has been worn or mangled?
Question:Where the original screwdriver used won't now turn the screw cause the screwhead has sort of been damaged by excessive moving or torque?
I think theres a term/name for it. ?
Thanks
Answers:
It's called stripped. Your screw has been stripped.
f*cked
Screwed?
Fooked.
There are items that have names and then there are items that don't have names but are a function of a named item. What you have described is a rounded off phillips screw.
the technical term is "verkloot"
stripped
stripped out
In this case, you could say the head is stripped and others would know what you mean.
Some people say stripped or chingered
"stripped" is the word you're looking for.
Actually there is no name for it..but there is a name for the situation it creates.. "OH CRAP".. and if you can't get it out.. it is (*&)%$#)...
"Screwed". Sorry, couldn't resist. When the threads get worn out, it's said that the screw is "stripped". Don't know what the head of the screw would be called - maybe stripped too.
stripped
Its become threaded
Junk trash for a couple.
Cam out is the technical term. "Stripped" is the vernacular.
i didnt want to answer this, cos u have so many suggestions, but everyone is right, ur screw is stripped, in theory..however, if u work or study technical shite, it is actually a screwdriver that gets 'stripped', the screw itself is termed 'worn'.i suggest u check other screwdriverheads, or bits, to see if another will fit ( im assuming u have various sizes of phillips drivers), before u buy a bag of screws of which u will only need 1
it's called stripped
The term you are looking for is [screwinably challenged].
Dead
Screw head is defunct.
Chewed
A thread is stripped. A head is chewed
In my house that would be called chewed
Knackered
To be polite it's no good. Try using a new screwdriver. Sometimes this bites enough to get the screw out, or clamp the top of the screw with a pair of grips and the right swear words. Works a treat sometimes. Good luck.
the screw is worn and the screw driver is stripped. if you want to get it out, you can try a tiny drip of oil behind the screw head and then turn with a grips.this worked for me
F***ed!
a twisted screw?
