Which is better for me, swamp cooler or AC unit?

Question:In my apartment in Albuquerque.my pad uses a swamp cooler. I put it up on high during the day,but it still doesn't feel that cool though.Should I just get an AC unit for myself.Could it also help me out on the cooling bill too?

Answers:
Swamp coolers work the best in dry climates. If you are looking for a large difference then a/c is for you.
Swamp coolers will not cool the air more than 5-10 degees at best and less as the outdoor humidity increases.

I'm not real sure what a swamp cooler is but, if it is what I am thinking, they don't work. If it's one that just blows water into the air, they DO NOT work. Get a small AC or suffer. I tried to use one of those things one summer. USELESS!! Get a small AC at W-Mart. They are only about $100 bucks.
Go with the AC unit. Once its gets above a certain temp and humitity, evap coolers don't do much.

Plus, is the thing dirty? How are the pads etc.
check your swamp cooler to see if the hog hair needs changing see if the pump is working and the float as well or if the pan has a hole in it, proper flow of water over the hog hair will make the swamp cooler work properly out west where the humidity is real low this is an ideal way to cool a home ,in the muggy humidity of Florida it will cause green stuff to grow on yer walls not good! LOL
