I just had Central AC installed and have a question about the duct work.?

Question:The installer claims that running (1) 8" duct to a certain location and splitting it off into (2) vents will produce more cold air than running (2) 7" ducts into (2) separate vents.
Can somebody who knows about AC let me know if the installer is being honest with me. I can't see how this is possible?
Thanks for your answers.

Answers:
This doesn't necessarily have to be an air conditioning problem.
The square inch of possible airflow from one 8" pipe is 50.27, devide thar by two gives you 25.13 square inches at each register.
Now take the two 7" pipes, which will give you 38.46 square inches each or a total of 76.96 square inches, or about 50% more than the 8" pipe.
A simple answer, the two 7" will provide for more cooling than the 8" split in two.
I can also get into static pressures involved, but for your answer that's not necessary, he's not being honest, or doesn't know how to figure air flow.

running an 8 inch duct into an area and splitting the duct into 2 is the way to go,running 7 inch duct aint gonna happen beause for one they dont sell it in that size normally . I used to sell appliance and HVAC supplys duct work comes in 6 or 8 or ten or 12 inch sizes not odd sizes
