A/C Troubles?
Question:I have a Coleman Heat Pump and after a horrible day of 95 degree hot and humind weather. My unit outside will shut off once desired temp is reached but the blower inside will not shut off. Only if I shut the breaker off. Any advice PLEASE.
Answers:
I had this problem once and I cleaned out around the blower motor and it helped for awhile then i had to replace a control board on the inside.
By Blower you mean the fan of the AC? The fan always runs and circulates the air and once the temperature goes up the compressor starts. That is how AC works. The compressor will be ON and OFF depending on the temperature and is controlled by the thermostat.
I do not know this particular model. However, it is possible the fan is controlled by a temperature switch which works off the motor/unit internal temperature. My electric furnace does this, the blower comes on when the heating elements are energized. However the fan continues to run after the heating elements are deenergized until they are less than 110 degrees F. My electric furnace runs the blower based on an OR condition, thermostat says to make heat OR the heating element temperature is over 110 degrees. My little Geo Metro has an electric fan which is also controlled by a thermal switch. It surprised the heck out of me one day shortly after I bought it. I had parked on the driveway and turned the engine off and was getting groceries out of the back when the fan turned itself on. It stayed on for a couple of minutes and then turned itself off. I found out later, residual heat in the engine can cause the fan to trigger and it is supposed to work this way. Your fan may very well be controlled by a thermal switch in the same manner, cooling the unit after the compressor turns off. If so, this is a wise piece of engineering to protect the components from overheating. The question is, does the fan go off at some point, or does it run and run and run even when it is cool at night AND your thermostat is set to OFF? If it is controlled by a thermal switch, then you may have the same kind of problem as Apollo 13 with a thermal switch which welded itself shut, but in your case, there is no disaster in store if the fan runs on continuously. It it just runs all the time, even at night no matter how cool it is outside, then it is time to call in a professional.
it is the inherent design of the machine.not to worry
