What is the best way to connect 4 lights to a switch in a house?
Question:I am pretty good at wiring up houses, done a few before, but never 4 lights on one switch (usually one light on the one switch, or a couple of switches for one light which aint rocket science.) currently it is working with one light connected to the next until the last light, but I was wondering should I connect the 4th light to the 1st light? or should I run individual wires to each light? thank you!
Answers:
go to wikipedia and look at parallel vs series circuits. Running wires individually to each light (parallel) will make everything brighter and use more power. Running them from one light to the next (series) will provide less light and use less power. I would go something like switch to #1 to #2 to #3 to #4 to the switch again.
Daysie chain the light. One to another to another. Cap it off at the last fixture. You don't have enough room in you junction (switch) box to have 4-5 individual wires.
1234 and cap in the last fixture as the other poster stated try hooking up 75 in a 35 foot ceiling now thats some fun for sure
just loop a feed from one light to the next
The shortest runs are the cheapest. There are NEC codes that dictate how many wires you can have in a single electrical box. (based on wire size). So, either consult NEC guide or just daisy chain them, as you mentioned one to the next. I put recessed lighting in my basement and used a central FEED box and ran wires to all the lights from there.
As far as connecting the 1st to the 4h, NO. you only need one black (HOT) and one white (neutral) to each light (from the switch).
