What could be the problem?
Question:Compressor and coils are freezing up. The outside unit starts up but it is frozen? Please help. What could be wrong?
Answers:
sounds stupid but check your filter. no air flow will cause coils to freeze up. is your blower blowing? my gf had this issue. filter was so bad, nothign got thru. i bet u have no air flow. give me an email when u find the actual answer. good luck. let us knwo what happens.
as per too much freon, unless someone snuck in and charged it for you, that is pretty much impossible. if the compressor wasnt operating properly, u sure wouldnt get too much cold, u would get too little.
too much freon
or bad thermostat
You need to have your pressures checked. you can call for service but they will charge you a service fee. Call for bids to replace the units and kind of pick the salemans brain. We found that alot of the people who were selling jobs were in the field at one time or another. If there is no satisfaction gained there then bite the bullet and call someone in. Ask the salesman what it would cost to repair the unit as compared to replacing it. This will give you an idea what may be wrong. Just an idea to save you a little money.
A lot of stuff can cause a compressor to freeze up. A plugged filter (air or line) too little freon or too much freon. My advice is to get the pressure checked. Right now lots of HVAC companies are running specials for start up A/C. Find a good contractor and they will be able to tell you what is going on.
