My Sharp 14,000 Btu Window A/C has stopped working. How to "Reset"the compressor won't kick in. I

Question:The Fan is fine but the compresssor won't kick in. Is there a reset button on most A/C units?

Answers:
It's possible your evap coil has frozen up. My advice would be to turn the fan on high and the cooling dial down as low as possible and let it run for a few hours. If the coil froze that should unfreeze it and if you turn up the temp. dial you should then hear the compressor turn on. It's also possible that your compressor is shot and the unit would have to be repaired or more likely replaced.

Some of the new ones have a reset button on the plug itself.
The older style, I just shutt them off for a few hours and then turn them back on...
the control switch might be defective,or your compressor could be bad, you would have to check it.
